Swingtown Renewal a ‘Longshot’ Says TV Week

TV Week tips us off today that CBS is bring back “Flashpoint” for another season. Fans may remember this show as the one that kicked Swingtown out of its 10 p.m. Thursday slot into the Friday basement.

The crime drama had been in that Friday night slot first, but showed promise according to TV Week, justifying the switch with Swingtown in the middle of the summer. The ratings for both shows went in opposite directions.

Despite buzz a few weeks ago that CBS may have been shopping the show around to cable networks, not much on that recently.

TV Week told SaveSwingtown.com that while there was no word yet on Swingtown,  “Because of the first announcements, though, it doesn’t look too good.” Their article was even more blunt, calling renewal of the show a ‘long shot.’

So, Let me get this straight…You put “Swingtown” an obvious well liked and supported show against the “Olympics” and then you base the decision of canceling “Swingtown” on the Ratings? Okay.
Kelley with a two year signed contract to do another show, that basically pushes the same boundaries, now cuts his and CBS’s “Swingtown” supported audience down by 1/2 because now what you have down is focus the drama (sexual drama) on a Male/Male relationship. Just cut the lesbian undertones out of “Swingtown” hold onto the gay ones and there you go…a story line like “BiCoastal” is created.
I’m one of those Swingtown watchers that was completely 100% engaged in the Olympics. I would watch Swingtown online during my lunch hour the next day. The show is good. CBS lost out maybe, but I’m hoping HBO, SHO, anybody else picks it up.

It looks like CBS is doing the network TV equivalent of letting a bill die in committee. So sad!
