Swingtown Creator Inks Deal, Will Develop ‘BiCoastal’ Series for Showtime: Hollywood Reporter

“Swingtown” creator/executive producer Mike Kelley has inked a two-year overall deal with CBS Paramount Network TV, the studio behind the drama about partner-swapping couples in 1970s suburbia.

Under the seven-figure deal, Kelley is developing “BiCoastal” — another one-hour exploring relationships, marriage and sexuality, which has been set up at Showtime. Co-produced by Sean Hayes’ CBS Par-based Hazy Mills Prods., it centers on a successful man who struggles to balance family life with his wife and kids in Los Angeles as he falls in love with a man in New York.

“It has a lot of the watermarks of things I love to write about — people with secrets and high-stakes love lives,” Kelley said.

CBS Video: ‘I Love You’

Here’s a great clip posted by CBS on YouTube from Season 1 between Mr. Stephens and Laurie … he loves her, but will he be back after he saves the day out of the country? Of course…that depends if the show is back of course.

How do you want this story line to proceed? Will she find her second love in her last year of high school? Will he return to find her knocked up or something? Will she jet off to find him?

AdAge Pre-Season Video: Swingtown Got Advertisers’ Attention

Here’s an interesting video I found on YouTube by the advertising industry publication AdAge that came out prior to the show taking to the airwaves. While the show didn’t get quite the ‘broad’ audience in terms of size, it certainly was a show that appealed to an audience that was a bit more apt like smart television.

Attention fans of Swingtown: your ratings-challenged show might actually have a chance to see a second season.

Even though the 70s-set drama isn’t getting a ton of viewers (in its current time slot Friday at 10 or in its old Thursday at 10 time slot), there are execs behind the scenes at the network who like the show and would like to see it continue.
